The purpose and types of the main power and auxiliary electrical equipment of locomotives are considered. Special attention is paid to the electrical equipment of diesel locomotives; basic information on the electrical equipment of electric locomotives is presented. Devices of power equipment protection systems, special units of automation systems and locomotive apparatuses are presented. The main control circuits of a diesel locomotive in traction and braking modes are considered. Methods for calculating the operating modes and characteristics of the main systems and apparatuses are described. It is intended for students of railway transport universities studying in the specialty 190300 "Railway rolling stock", and can also be useful for engineering and technical workers.
